As for THIS page...

Competing directly in a competition would have been breaking immortal law, yes. An immortal might have gotten away with it by perceiving their participation as some sort of guidance, but given they'd have to genuinely believe that, it would be a rare immortal who could.

Ironically, helping a mortal cheat would have been completely acceptable so long as the immortal wasn't officially on their team (unless we're counting someone on the team who would, by design, be in a role that just provided guidance).
