Sometimes, when I explain something in the comic, it's the sign of a bad habit of mine.

I don't like to be misunderstood, and when I see someone not understanding, I want to explain.

In and of itself, not the worst quality, but it's possible to go overboard with it. Trying to clarify can derail stories rather quickly, add more confusion, and even add additional details I didn't intend to add, and could regret later.

That's not what's going on here, however. Since I knew I wanted them at a restaurant, I knew I wanted to address why.

A restaurant, after all, might seem an odd choice given that Lavender would have to hide being uryuom, and Grace would be limited to one form.

What I DIDN'T know in advance was that it would wind up being a full, silly page about it. I figured I'd simply have someone ask about it at some point, and someone would explain it.

Later, I figured that would be boring.

So now we have excited waitress Grace, aliens arguing about the pronunciation of "potato", free-bread-stealing ninja lavender, those same aliens undoubtedly about to order mashed potatoes, and the reveal that Grace was explaining this to Ellen, who probably asked about it.

My hope is that was slightly less boring.
