The original idea I had for Dave's spell was essentially the ability to mimic other abilities, and spells. To clarify, this would not have been like a wizard learning spells. This would have been "the person in front of me has an enchantment, and I can copy that right here, right now, but not later."
Which is potentially interesting, particularly if it can copy any ability (such as uryuom ones), so someone else may yet get it.
Thing is, it doesn't really work for someone who's thinking of being a super hero, and hasn't encountered a lot of powers to copy. Where would his confidence about being a hero come from, particularly given that, against someone without powers, he would also essentially have none? Dave needed a spell he could actually use in any situation.
So he has a different spell instead that he can use all on his own that also sort of fits with the original symbol that was shown way back in Squirrel Prophet. It's possible to make a reasonable guess as to what it is based on this comic, but here's a hint:
It's not just turning into a woman who runs differently and has different speech patterns.
This Road
Camdin says "this road" instead of "the road" because, benefit of the doubt, he's managed to make progress in the game, and it's a specific level he's been stuck on. My pride is forcing me to point that out, because I think "the road" flows better, and I want to be clear that there was a reason that I went for the less flowy option.
I prefer the flow of "I'm never going to get THIS frog across THE road" over "THE frog across THIS road", but benefit of the doubt, Camdin's managed to make progress in the game, and there's a specific level he's stuck on. So it's a specific road out of many that he's stuck on, hence "this road".
