Partial credit to anyone who guessed Rhoda would be growing Kitty's shoes, because a) it was a very logical guess, and b) it's something I had considered briefly, but quickly rejected.

There's no doubting the effectiveness of changing the size of Kitty's shoes. It would be almost guaranteed to trip her up and cause her to fall, bringing an abrupt end to the chase.

Her tripping and falling, however, is exactly why that solution was rejected. It would work, but we're talking about effectively tripping someone who's running while inside a building with hard floors. Effective it might be, but Rhoda has absolutely zero interest in physically harming, or even significantly upsetting, Kitty.

Granted, suddenly making the forearms of Kitty's kitty sweater grow could potentially result in Kitty taking a misstep and tripping anyway, but it's less guaranteed, and hey, extra padding for her forearms.
