I really like panel two. When you get used to the general magic nonsense, it can be easy to think "well, he discovered he could transform, and so he decided to do that before going on his maybe-date, and..." NO.
That's a really weird thing to happen to a person. There was a lot to process. It's a minor miracle he didn't call in sick to all of the things for a week.
