I was never that happy with Sam suggesting "Tess" as a name for Tedd. It was the best idea I had at the time for progressing a particular part of the story, but it felt awkward to me.
Now, to be fair to past me, I leaned into that awkwardness with Tedd's reaction. At the time, however, I didn't really have a good reason for why Sam said that (or even knew Sam that well as a character).
Well, it's nearly ten years later, and the exciting reason Sam was being awkward was... Sam was being awkward.
I'm glad we finally settled that mystery.
