Those of you familiar with Ranma 1/2 are probably not surprised that Ashley was the one to suggest this, though the "character with a bad sense of direction" trope is apparently more prolific than I first thought. I saw at least one person mention a bad sense of direction as a possibility (though I'm not sure if they were serious), which was accompanied by examples I didn't even know about.
That said, a character having a bad sense of direction is certainly useful while writing.
"Well, why did they go there?!"
"It's not like they MEANT to."
