Elliot’s a cool guy who can sense things like power, except when he can’t. It’s intentionally not very reliable by design, which is sort of a joke on how such things usually work. Also, it’s so much easier to write for that way, am I right? “No, that inconsistency isn’t a mistake! It’s a feature!”

Of course, now that I think of it, I’m not 100% sure that was always my intent. I was the guy who felt it necessary to give the shapeshifting squirrel girl consistent mass for some reason. Maybe I did intent for Elliot’s sense ability to be more reliable?
